The Regional Union of Industry, Commerce and Handicrafts in Sfax, is a regional instance, among  24 other regional unions representing the Tunisian Union of Industry, Commerce and Handicrafts in all governorates of the republic. It is one of eleven (11) Regional Unions which have given birth to the National Instance (constitutive congress of January 1947). The Regional Union of Sfax emerged in the wake of creating "industrial union rooms of small traders" under the influence of leaders of the national struggle,  in which Hedi Chaker was one of the pioneers in Sfax and with the support of the UGTT led by Farhat Hached.

Establishing

The Tunisian Union of Industry, Commerce and Handicrafts of Sfax was founded in 1946, it was the out coming of a long launch campaign of several employer  rooms conducted since 1944 under the leadership of an important activist and regional leader:  Hedi Chaker. A year later, following the establishment in 1947 of nationally UTICA, Sfax UTICA became the regional body.

Duties and goals

The duties and goals of the UTICA of Sfax has fixed to achieve are almost merged with those of the National instance in the following terms:

1. Ensure the protection and the saving of interests and its members within and by all means available to them by law.
2. Develop a strategy and an action program to participate in economic development in all areas related to the business including employment, exports, investment and regional development.
3. Ensure the construction of a political dialogue and social agreement with the social partners .
4. Ensure the representation of its members to the government and develop cooperation with professional and economic national and international organizations.
5. Participate actively with the government, to develop and enforce an economic and social policy capable of ensuring progress and prosperity to all economic agents.
6. Act for the promotion of various economic sectors in all fields affecting them directly or indirectly through its technical services and training centers for promotion and support.
7. Develop an international partnerships by coordinating a network of relationships with foreign employers and central institutions and multinational organizations .
8. Coordinate and facilitate the activities of its local , regional and national professional structures .
